About RIV-Digital

RIV-Digital is a consumer-facing crypto-asset service operated by RIV-DIGITAL S.R.L., an Italian company based at Via Luigi Dalla Via 3 B, 36015 Schio (Vicenza), Italy. On its own website the company describes itself as a bridge between traditional finance and digital markets, offered through what it states are regulated services and proprietary technology infrastructure. According to research sources, it sits within the wider RIV Capital Group, reported to have been founded in 2021 by Roberto Rivera with a parent group presence in Luxembourg and Dubai. It is not a bank, custodian or asset manager but a retail-oriented crypto-asset service provider. Sources: RIV-Digital website, RIV Capital Group

The company states its products are aimed at both retail and institutional clients following KYC/AML checks. On its site it describes a placement service for crypto-asset offerings (acting, in its words, as a technical and organisational intermediary without personalised advice), and a brokerage feature inside the RIV Wallet that lets users convert euro or dollars into crypto and back to fiat with bank-account settlement, which the company states carries a 4.9% fee per conversion and favours stablecoins to reduce volatility. RIV-Digital describes the wallet as non-custodial while stating that temporary, segregated custody during transactions is handled by its own infrastructure. These EUR on-ramp and off-ramp claims are the company's own descriptions of its product. Source: RIV-Digital website

On the legal point, the contracting entity is RIV-DIGITAL S.R.L., whose national competent authority is the Italian securities regulator CONSOB (Commissione Nazionale per le Societa e la Borsa). Under MiCA, the services it is authorised to provide are exchange of crypto-assets for funds, exchange of crypto-assets for other crypto-assets, and placing of crypto-assets. The authorisation does not, on this services list, cover custody and administration of crypto-assets on behalf of clients, nor operation of a trading platform, transfer services, order execution, reception and transmission of orders, advice, or portfolio management. Features such as savings, staking or a payment card are not part of the authorised MiCA scope. Research sources also report that the entity was previously registered as a VASP with Italy's OAM register before MiCAR. Sources: RIV-Digital website, bebeez (MiCAR licence report)

What does this mean for users of RIV-Digital in the EU?

If you transact through RIV-Digital's EEA-authorised entity (RIV-DIGITAL S.R.L.), the protections introduced by MiCA apply to your relationship from onwards. In practical terms this means: client crypto-assets are ring-fenced from the exchange's own funds (Article 70 MiCA), the authorised entity holds prudential capital, has formal complaint-handling procedures, and is subject to transparency obligations on fees and order execution.
