Last updated: 31 May 2026.

Who we are

The Crypto Register is an independent editorial project based in the Netherlands. This privacy policy explains how we handle personal data when you visit thecryptoregister.com. We are the data controller for the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You can reach us via our contact page.

Data we collect and why

Infrastructure logs

When you visit the site, Vercel (our hosting provider, Vercel Inc., USA) automatically records your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and access time in server logs. This is necessary to operate the site securely. Legal basis: legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Vercel processes data under Standard Contractual Clauses; see Vercel's privacy policy.

Analytics and advertising (consent required)

We use Google Analytics and Google AdSense, both provided by Google LLC. Neither service is activated until you give consent via the cookie banner. When you click Accept:

  • Google Analytics: collects page views, session duration, device type, and general location (country/city level) to help us understand how the site is used.
  • Google AdSense: may set personalised advertising cookies. Your data may be used by Google and its advertising partners for ad targeting and measurement.

If you click Decline, neither service collects data from your visit. You can change your preference at any time by clearing this site's local storage in your browser settings. Legal basis: consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). For Google's data practices see Google's privacy policy.

Contact form submissions

When you use our contact page we collect your name, email address, and message. This data is stored in private cloud storage (Vercel Blob) and used only to respond to your enquiry or act on corrections you flag. Legal basis: legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Retention: up to 12 months, then deleted.

Cookies and local storage

We store a single first-party key (tcr_cc) in your browser's local storage to remember your cookie consent choice. This is strictly necessary and contains no personal data. Third-party advertising and analytics cookies are only set with your consent (see above). You can review or withdraw consent at any time by clearing local storage for this domain.

Your rights under GDPR

If you are in the EEA or UK you have the right to:

  • Access (Art. 15): request a copy of personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification (Art. 16): ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure (Art. 17): ask us to delete your data where there is no legal obligation to retain it.
  • Restriction (Art. 18): ask us to limit processing in certain circumstances.
  • Portability (Art. 20): receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Object (Art. 21): object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Complain: lodge a complaint with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (the Dutch supervisory authority) or the supervisory authority of your EEA country of residence.

To exercise any right, contact us via our contact page. We respond within one month.

Data transfers outside the EEA

Our hosting provider (Vercel) and advertising/analytics provider (Google) operate globally, including in the United States. Transfers are protected by Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

Third-party links

Our pages link to regulator websites (ESMA, BaFin, AFM and others) and exchange websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those external sites.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy when our data practices change. The date at the top reflects the most recent update.
