About Vivid Money B.V.

Vivid Money B.V. is the Dutch legal entity behind Vivid, a consumer and business finance app that combines banking-style accounts with investing features, including crypto. The Vivid group was founded in 2019 in Berlin and, according to the research, runs its operations from Amsterdam (Strawinskylaan 4117, 1077 ZX). Alongside its crypto offering, Vivid markets personal and business accounts, EUR/SEPA transfers, interest accounts and card cashback to retail and small-business users. On the crypto side, research describes Vivid as a multi-asset service covering more than 300 coins rather than a Bitcoin-only product, with spot trading, custody, a savings/DCA feature, staking and card-linked cashback, all in EUR with SEPA support. The company's materials note that crypto assets are held with a regulated custodian (Copper) and that some crypto functionality has historically been delivered through a separate Vivid group entity. These are Vivid's own product descriptions and should be read as such, not as independent verification. Source: Vivid crypto overview

On the legal point: the contracting entity is Vivid Money B.V., and its competent authority is the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM). Under MiCA, the ESMA register records authorisation for two crypto-asset services only: Custody and administration of crypto-assets on behalf of clients, and Reception and transmission of orders for crypto-assets (Order R&T). The research indicates this CASP authorisation lets Vivid passport services into other EU member states such as France. Source: AMF CASP white list (Vivid Money B.V.)

What the licence does not cover matters as much as what it does. The two authorised services are custody and order routing - the MiCA register entry in the research does not list operation of a trading platform, exchange of crypto-assets for funds or other crypto-assets, placing, transfer services, portfolio management on crypto-assets, or advice. Anyone checking whether a specific Vivid crypto feature is in scope should confirm it against the AFM/ESMA register entry for Vivid Money B.V. rather than relying on the app's marketing. Which crypto services is Vivid Money B.V. authorised to offer in the EU?

Under its MiCA authorisation issued by Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) and De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), Vivid Money B.V. (Vivid Money B.V.) is approved to provide the following services to EEA residents. Each service is defined in Article 3(1)(16) of Regulation (EU) 2023/1114.

  • Providing custody and administration of crypto-assets on behalf of clients

The exchange holds your crypto in its own wallets. Authorisation here means MiCA's segregation and insurance rules apply: client crypto-assets must be ring-fenced from the exchange's own funds.

  • Reception and transmission of orders for crypto-assets on behalf of clients

The exchange can receive your order and pass it to another venue for execution. Brokerage-pattern service, often paired with order execution.

Which services is Vivid Money B.V. not authorised to offer?

Vivid Money B.V.'s MiCA licence does not cover: Trading platform, Exchange for funds, Exchange for crypto, Order execution, Placing, Advice, Portfolio mgmt, Transfer services. These services may still be offered by other authorised providers, or by Vivid Money B.V. under a different regulatory framework (for example, derivatives may fall under MiFID II rather than MiCA). Why is Vivid Money B.V. licensed in Netherlands?

The Netherlands historically had one of the strictest pre-MiCA crypto frameworks, with DNB running a stand-alone Wwft register. AFM is the MiCA-designated competent authority. Bitvavo is the dominant Dutch-licensed CASP; many global exchanges previously withdrew from the Dutch market under pre-MiCA pressure. What does this mean for users of Vivid Money B.V. in the EU?

If you transact through Vivid Money B.V.'s EEA-authorised entity (Vivid Money B.V.), the protections introduced by MiCA apply to your relationship from onwards. In practical terms this means: client crypto-assets are ring-fenced from the exchange's own funds (Article 70 MiCA), the authorised entity holds prudential capital, has formal complaint-handling procedures, and is subject to transparency obligations on fees and order execution. One thing to verify yourself: the legal entity you contract with day-to-day must match the entity in the ESMA register. Some global exchanges operate multiple legal entities under one brand. Confirm in Vivid Money B.V.'s terms of service that your contracting entity is Vivid Money B.V., not a non-EEA affiliate.
